Lead Free Brass also known as Yellow Brass or Muntz Metal comes with about 60% Copper, 40% Zinc and minor traces of other impurities. Due to the specific mixture of different metals, this alloy is highly resistant to corrosion in the high seas. Because of its cost effective nature and incredible durability, it has grown past its original maritime use to architectural,, plumbing and industrial applications.
IS 4170 is a lead free material which is however quite suitable for machining due to its structural constitution. IS 4170 can be used as a cost-effective replacement for conventional lead-containing machining brass provided that it must not meet high requirements as regards mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.
